ภูเขาไฟพิโรธ คือภาพอุปมากรุงเทพมหานคร ยามกลายเป็นสถานที่แห่งการระเบิดทางอารมณ์ ผ่านการจำลองสังเวียนแห่งการต่อสู้ทั้งทางร่างกายและมโนคติ ด้วยการย้อนไปเยือนโรงแรมรัตนโกสินทร์ ในบริบทซึ่งเคยเป็นสถานที่บูชายัญของอำนาจเผด็จการ และสนามมวยราชดำเนิน ในส่วนเสี้ยวเวลาของการเผชิญกับนักล่าดึกดำบรรพ์ สัตว์ป่าในร่างของมนุษย์ แววตาที่หิวกระหาย และรสหวานล้ำของโลหิตแดงฉานจากกายของผู้พลาดพลั้ง ใจกลางกรุงเทพมหานคร จึงดูจะไม่ต่างจากป่าดงพงไพรมืดทึบของกาลเวลา มันเต็มไปด้วยรอยแตกร้าวที่มิเคยได้รับการเยียวยาและพลังอำนาจที่พร้อมจะแปรเปลี่ยนเป็นความรุนแรง ปะทุปะทั่งความกราดเกรี้ยวเดือดดาลของมันอีกครั้ง ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า ไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด

Brief description of project:
A Ripe Volcano is an allegorical revelation where Bangkok becomes a site of mental eruption and the emotionally devastated land during the heights of terrors, primal fears, trauma, and the darkness of time.

A Ripe Volcano revisits The Rattanakosin Hotel, the site where the military troops captured and tortured the civilians, students and protestors who were hiding inside the hotel during the Black May of 1992; and Ratchadamnoen Stadium, a Roman amphitheatre styled Muay Thai boxing arena, which was built in 1941-45 during the Second World War and since then has become the theatrical labyrinth of physical and mental explosions.

The work builds around the recollections of human experiences that took place within these spaces and shifts through the mental space distilled from the possessed memory of wounded time.
Within the platform of the multi-channel video / sound installation, the visual and sound artists will create the dreamlike variations sprawling through the darken room where the haunting images and ambient sound floats through the space and creating an exquisitely hypnotizing experience.

Aims / Objective / Goals of project:
The sensation is still vivid in my mind, not the specific actions or situations, but the arbitrary sings and gestures of emotions on the verge of eruptions of these characters in the video – the soldiers, the boxers, football players, and their spectator – whose intense emotions still haunt the empty rooms they once occupied, the remains of these intense experiences, the traces of memories, the fragments of their lives and all the physical and psychological pain and suffering have transformed into the dreamlike landscape of mental space and time. This is what I attempt to capture in A Ripe Volcano.
This project started from a desire to paint a portrait of historical consciousness of Thailand during the last decades, to capture the vibrations in the air – the mass media manipulation, the censorship, primal screams, violent eruptions, memory of terror, traumatic experiences – these seem to be the mood and feeling that possess Thailand in these recent years. With the help from my dear collaborator and a talented sound artist, Yasuhiro Morinaga, we hope to utilize our fullest expressions to create a haunting account of these mental space and time and share it with the audience through the multi-channel video and sound installation, A Ripe Volcano.
